ultra-short wave communication

Communication that uses radio waves in the 30-300 MHz frequency band to transmit information. Due to the wavelength of ultra short wave being between 1-10 meters, it is also known as meter wave communication. The entire bandwidth of ultra short waves is 270 megahertz, which is 10 times the bandwidth of short waves. Due to its wide frequency band, it is widely used for transmitting television, FM broadcasting, radar, navigation, mobile communication and other services.

Ultra short wave has significant differences in transmission characteristics compared to short wave. Due to its high frequency, the transmitted sky waves generally penetrate the ionosphere and are launched into space, but cannot be reflected back to the ground by the ionosphere. Therefore, it mainly relies on the propagation of direct waves in space (with limited diffraction ability). Like light, the propagation distance is not only limited by visual distance, but also influenced by high mountains and tall buildings. If a TV tower several hundred meters high is erected, the service radius can only reach 150 kilometers. To spread further, it is necessary to rely on interrupt station forwarding.

The wavelength of ultra short waves is relatively short. Therefore, the size of the transmitting and receiving antenna can be smaller. In short-range communication, only a small communication device is required, so it is widely used in mobile communication methods. Since the 1980s, combined with telephone exchange technology, mobile radio stations can form bidirectional communication circuits with other mobile radio stations through telephone exchanges in a dial-up manner, called wireless telephones (or mobile phones), and can communicate with the local telephone network to form a convenient and flexible communication network. The small mobile radio is handheld and weighs less than 1000 grams. The reporter carries it with them to enter the interview site and can maintain contact with the editorial department at any time within a range of tens of kilometers. If equipped with text fax, image fax, or devices for writing articles using portable computers, the interviewed articles or photos can be sent back to the editorial department on the spot.
